Enjoy our weekly comedy vlog about DIY everything!
Our homes sunroom was originally not enclosed and simply a patio hanging off the side of our house. Somewhere along the line they decided to enclose it with brick walls. Since the floors already had a pretty steep slope for water drainage and the metal flashing is way beyond failing, we decided the best idea was to remove it and apply sealant/caulk to the transition. The brick walls were placed after the flashing was laid down so there was no easy way to get the flashing out. Using a utility knife and sacrificing 20-ish blades to the concrete gods, I was able to cut it all out. I chose Drylok Masonry Crack Filler because it's reasonably priced, matches the mortar color out of the tube and can be painted. We have had great luck with Drylok Waterproofer and floor paints before, so I figured why not give it a try? A few heavy rains later - Including that day... We no longer get water leaks under the walls! We'll finish it off with a coat of white paint and call it good. Check out our channel for car, home, life adventures! All in all, removing our flashing and simply caulking the mortar cracks was a better option for our home. So, get out there and fix something!
