The man accused of trying to poison cats at an Akron mobile home park pleaded no contest to multiple charges and was found guilty of a count of animal cruelty, Barberton Municipal Court records show.
New Franklin resident James Genovese, 47, pleaded no contest to two counts of cruelty to animals and one count of poisoning animals. He was found guilty of one count of cruelty to animals.
Genovese was sentenced to 60 days in jail, with 57 days suspended. He will serve three days at the Community Alternative Sentencing Center in Akron.
Residents of the Sandy Beach Trailer Park on South Main Street say Genovese placed bowls of antifreeze around the property in an effort to harm the cats. The Summit County Sheriff's Office arrested him on March 1.
