Researchers have been tracking global temperatures dating back to the 1880s. Global temperatures have been rising over the past few decades. Since the 1880s, the average global surface temperature has risen about 2 degrees Fahrenheit (1 degree Celsius). This animation shows changes in the global temperature over the past 135 years.
