In this weeks video I'm going to be building and painting the Academy 172 scale A-10a thunder bolt model kit.
This kit is based on the iconic aircraft often called the warthog it is best know for burrrttting tanks out of existence, this is a pretty interesting looking plane as the whole thing is built around its gun with little consideration for anything else. This and the budget price of this kit is what drew me to this kit
The model kit goes together well with only minor flash and clean up to do along the way, the details are crisp and clean and the panel lines sharp and neat
few bits to watch out for in this kit
The under carriage is fiddly to install but once in place is very solid.
The inner jet nozzle takes a bit of time to line up as the post and grove are not deep enough to hold this part great until the glue sets
This model kit needs weight to be added to the front of the plane in order for it not to be a tail sitter, this is to account for the gun in real life been very heavy, the kit needs about 1 ounce of fishing weights to be added to the forward part of the plane. This is mentioned in the instructions though.
The plane comes with decals for two versions of the kit, both of which are from operation Iraqi freedom. However I opted to paint the plane in a USAF Europe camo scheme as I think the two tone grey look is very boring.
The decals where the only part of this kit that I didn't like as they seemed to not want to stick to the model very well
All in all though I think that this model is well worth the 12 pound price tag and if built a bit slower than mine, will make a nice model to put on display
Any way thank you for watching this weeks build review video
Until next time look after yourselves and have a good un
Good bye
