WWII starts on September 1, 1939 when Germany invades Poland. In this occupation, Nazi Germany now controls more than 3 million Polish Jews. To contain the Jews, the Nazis establish ghettos, which are overcrowded, lacking food, and prone to contagion.
Discussion Questions:
1. Why did the Nazis create ghettos?
2. Compare and contrast the Nazi treatment of Polish Jews and German Jews. What factors led to differences?
3. Describe the conditions in the ghettos.
4. What was the role of the Jewish councils and Jewish police in the ghettos?
