Fall 2022 Evening Lecture Series: Eve Straussman-Pflanzer "Eve Straussman-Pflanzer: Artemisia Gentileschi and the Wider World of Exhibitions on Italian Women Artists," recorded on December 7, 2022.
Eve Straussman-Pflanzer, curator and head of Spanish and Italian paintings at the National Gallery of Art, spoke on “Artemisia Gentileschi and the Wider World of Exhibitions on Italian Women Artists,” at the New York Studio School on December 7, 2022, as part of the Evening Lecture Series. The program was presented with the generous support of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. She shared insights into her research on women artists, their practices, and their paths to success in the male-dominated Italian artworld of the period, as part of her preparation for the traveling exhibition By Her Hand: Artemisia Gentileschi and Women Artists in Italy, 1500–1800. She also shared a fascinating overview of the exhibition history of Italian women artists and reflected on how these shows intersected with larger cultural movements.
