Growing up I learned to clean my paintbrush after each use/day with paint thinner or gasoline; I'd scrub and clean them thoroughly, so that they'd look as close to new after each use. Then I worked with a guy that taught me to just keep the bristles of the paintbrush wet and to wrap the paintbrush in plastic so that no air hardens the paint. Seriously, paintbrushes, caulking, and rollers last a long time this way - no need to clean the brushes or throw away the unused caulking until the job is done.
PS: 1:19 is a victory vs. spider.
