1989 in a Day
Recollections and Reflections
Panel Discussion
This event was recorded on 6 November 2019 at the IWM Library.
This is a series of conversations spanning various Eastern and Central European societies between someone, who was an active participant, or a close observer, of an event on a crucial date in 1989, and a person, who was still very young in 1989. Both speakers start with personal reflections that is then followed by a debate about the relevance of this date/event today.
The format highlights selected key events in 1989 by way of personal recollections and examines their significance for current developments. The format focusses on eight selected dates/events of the year 1989, deliberately excluding the Fall of the Berlin Wall as this event retrospectively overshadows all others, which were not any less meaningful for later developments.
