Yes, there may be some tight muscles and inflammation causing pain, but in most cases that we see, it is the consequence of a shifted rib joint.
The rib joints, or costovertebral joints between the ribs and the spine are very prone to shifting, irritation and pain in those that spend a lot of time hunched over a desk. This condition can be very painful and we have even seen cases where patient's initially went to the hospital before seeing us because they thought that pain shooting from their back to their chest was a heart attack!
If you get recurrent pain under your shoulder blade and want it to stop, this video will give you the tools you need! A word of caution however, if these joints are repeatedly shifted and irritated, it could reflect a problem with the spine that requires further examination.
