0.11 My name is Dr Villnow. I’m a hair transplantation specialist and I have done hair transplantation for over twenty years.
0.20 You started with FUT, the older strip method, this is an older method than the newer FUE is it not?
0.29 In the beginning of my hair transplanation career, it was around nineteen ninety two, there was only this method, FUT. This is old but it’s very successful anyway and the new treatment is FUE
0.56 So you’ve been doing FUE as well as FUT?
0.59 Yes. The percentage of treatements is around 60% FUT and FUE the rest and since I’m doing around ten to twevle operations a week it’s about four, five FUE per week.
1.21 Ok, people often worry about the scar in FUT. How visible is the scar?
1.26 If you shave your hair in the back you will see the scar. It’s a small line but it’s visible. If you do FUE it’s like small points but the points are so small that you’ve can’t see it at all.
1.45 Sometimes there are patients who have had an FUT operation and they ask, can a scar be covered up with FUE grafts later.
1.53 I do that type of operation a lot because some of the patients come, they are getting older and they say they want to shave their hair and I will cover the scar and then we do a special ‘scar mask’ operation where we put the grafts on the scar and then it becomes not visible.
2.15 How many grafts do you need for a scar mask?
2.17 It’s roundabout four to five hundred. If you want it to look really good then you need it.
2.25 When you do FUT, what type of closures do you use to seal the scar when it’s just been done? Do you stich it up or do you use staples?
2.36 We never use staples. We use only stiches. We do it in two layers. There’s an inner layer that goes away by itself and an outer layer that has to be removed after two weeks.
2.50 So if I understood right, the outer layer, they dissolve on their own

2.56 The inner layer dissolves on its own and the outer layer has to be taken off after two weeks but anyway we see a patient who lives close by anyway
3.11 If a patient is coming from another country, is it possible to have those stitches removed by a doctor at home or do you have to do it?
3.18 No, any surgeon can take away the stitches
3.25 The next question is you practiced FUT for many years and now you’re doing it less with the FUE. Is there any reason for that or is it something that you’re going to continue doing?
3.40 The reason is that it’s more and more requested that people want to have no line, they don’t want to have the scar they want to have the points and for young people who want to shave their hair short it’s more interesting to have FUE.
4.05 But you can do both, you’re able to do both?
