Not a particularly great engine compared to most others on youtube, but being the first LPE of my own design (the last model I built from instructions) I was excited enough to upload it.
It is a four cylinder engine with a chain driven cam-in-block, with one side-valve per cylinder and a stroke of 3 studs. Rather than using a yoke, pistons are linked directly to the crankshaft. The valves also forgo sliders, and are linked with rigid pushrods.
It is rather bulky (too wide) revs very low, and does not operate smoothly, but it is my first working model and has tons of torque due to its long stroke. While many other LPEs have a displacement of 2 studs, this one has a displacement of 3 thanks to the cam parts used in the crankshaft. Grabbing the prop shaft, you can tell it is making a lot of torque. And it operates (albeit poorly) on unmodified parts.
The camshaft (being half a stud offset) caused me a lot of problems, and forced me to use a timing chain rather than timing gears. I am working on a revised version where the valves are located at an even stud (allowing the use of cam gears) and are actuated with sliders.
From there, I hope to develop a dual overhead cam version, an inline 6 version, and finally a DOHC I6 with variable valve timing and modified pistons and valves. But judging from the performance of this engine, that may be a ways away.
