First Landing: The MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital helipad is now open!
MUSC’s new Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion features a 22,000 lb. helipad engineered to accommodate the coast Guard’s new Jayhawk helicopter for emergency and disaster situations. It is one of the only hospital helipads on the east coast designed to withstand landing in 50kts sustained ambient winds. Once landed, patients are moved directly into a waiting elevator that descends to the state’s only Level 1 pediatric trauma center.
