Netherlands: Putin and Rutte bolster Dutch-Russian relations
Russian President Putin met Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte Monday in Amsterdam. Rutte welcomed Putin in front of the Scheepsvaartmuseum which is located in the centre of the Dutch capital. The meeting takes place in the context of the Netherlands-Russia year in which both countries emphasise their bilateral relations.
Putin arrived on Schiphol Airport near Amsterdam around 13:00 where he was welcomed by Frans Timmermans, the Foreign Minister of the Netherlands. After their meeting Putin and Rutte will attend a dinner organised for around 400 Dutch and Russian companies being held in the same museum.
All of Putin's meetings in Amsterdam were accompanied by protests. Amnesty International planned a demonstration around the Hermitage museum. COC Netherlands, an organisation advocating the rights of LGBTs, organied a demonstration in front of the Scheepsvaartmuseum. A pro-Assad protest also took place in the capital in the afternoon. It is expected some 3,500 people will demonstrate over the course of the day.
