In Iran, Cyrus the Great is still a controversial figure. Or at least that's how some of Iran's leaders see it. They'd prefer to keep Cyrus — hailed by some as a just ruler and the founder of the first human rights document — out of Iranian history. So when a crowd gathered to celebrate Cyrus and his role in Persian history last week, authorities retaliated, arresting people and dismissing their behavior as "counter-revolutionary." Why does admiration of a ruler from 600 BC make them so angry?
