Electric cars are, by their very nature, quieter than internal combustion engine cars.
There's no noisy engine throbbing under the bonnet at traffic lights. There's a lot less noise inside the cabin when you're traveling along - and there's an altogether more calm experience driving them as a result.
That quietness is why many governments around the world are now legislating to force electric cars to make noise when traveling at low speed (when above 20 mph, tyre noise makes electric cars almost indistinguishable from most internal combustion engined cars).
But is it necessary? Can modern internal combustion engined cars be as quiet as an EV? And if so, should they also be required to have noise makers? And what should the noise be?
