IT LOOKS LIKE A BUG! Some may say a spider.. some may say a water-skeeter - What kind of BUG do YOU think it looks like!? Comment BELOW! There are moments in time where design and creativity combine to make amazing machines, and (if I may...), competitions. For as long as mankind has been putting wheels on sticks to make an axle - humanity has found a way to compete with them! This is an "Axial XR10", a Motor-On Axle design (also referred to as "MOA").
This means a motor is mounted directly to a transmission on an individual axle housing, and a ring and pinion are joined -removing the need for cumbersome drive-shafts, that always leave people hung up on the rocks.

Radio Controlled Rock Crawling was at its peak in 2013-2014, but has seen a decline in activity in recent years. Although, with great examples of engineering like the Axial XR10, I am left to wonder if we will see a resurgence of the once popular rock crawling sport in the coming years.
There is little doubt that these machines are not only amazing to watch, but almost boggles the mind to how they seems to "stick to the rocks", or how the driver can lock out a front, or rear axle on command, (via input from the drivers transmitter).
It takes some practice to learn how to drive one of these machines, but once you become accustomed to the controls driving it becomes second nature. The Axle Lockouts work via 2 ESC units (electronic speed controllers - 1 per brushed motor) plugged into a receiver, and mixed on a 3 position switch. In the "Old Days".. we had to be creative with Mixing.. but in 2020, you are able to get controllers that already come pre-mixed for an MOA / DIG setup.
