This song is a new way to do an oral grammar pattern drill in German. I call this technique the Preaching and it's successfully used in most of my German online courses. With music however, these patterns are memorized even faster and more effectively.
The pattern of this Preaching Song is as follows:
Hast du gestern noch gearbeitet?
Ich habe gestern nicht mehr gearbeitet.
Warum hast du gestern nicht mehr gearbeitet?
Weil ich gestern nicht mehr gearbeitet habe.
It practices the following grammar:
1. The regular past tense called Perfekt
2. The Perfekt of verbs whose stem ends in a -d or -t or -n
3. The use of "noch" (still) in questions and "nicht mehr" (not anymore) as negative response
4. The use of subjunctions (like e.g. "weil") which push the verb to the very end.
If you let this song enter your mind and heart you'll soon find yourself being able to speak proper German without having to think at all. Give it a try. This is just one of many (to come). You'll also find it as a download in my courses (A1 Lesson 50).
Enjoy
Michael
