It's been 8 years since Chetan Kumsy and Risa Hatayama made Singapore their home. This year, they're planning to celebrate Deepavali by going to see the festive lights at Little India and visit the temples.

Being a mixed family, their festive meal on this day consists of South Indian dishes like rasam and poori, and specially-made vegetarian yakisoba. We joined them for dinner and a chat over tea.

Here's the Kumsy couple's story of how they met, broke up, travelled across the world, before they finally overcame cultural differences, reunited and relocated here.

日本人妻のクムシー畑山理沙さんとインド人の夫のクムシーチェタンさんは、８年前にシンガポールに移住してきました。

取材をしたこの日の食卓に、肉を一切使わない、オリジナルレシピの焼きそばがありました。もうすぐ、ヒンドゥー教の光の祭典「ディパバリ」がやってくるのです。この日に、ヒンドゥー教徒はベジタリアンを食べます。南インド料理と日本料理が同時に並ぶのは、クムシーファミリーの特徴です。

今回は、２人の出会いから、別れ、再会まで、そして最終的に文化の違いを乗り越えて、結婚にいたるまでのお話を伺いました。
