A video uploaded to TikTok by a McDonald's employee with the caption 'when someone orders two minutes before close' has gained more than 40 million views - but they insist it was just a spoof

A McDonald's worker whose video showing what happens "when someone orders two minutes before close" has gone viral - but the employee has insisted it was only filmed as a joke.

The clip has racked up more than 40 million views on TikTok and shows a worker putting the two halves of a bun in the cardboard box before drowning the bread in eight dollops of mayonnaise.

Lettuce is added before a slice of cheese is thrown down, landing half in and half out of the container, before a patty is also slapped in.

The box is then aggressively closed with half of the cheese still hanging out of the side, before it's flipped over and pushed down to the end of the line.

Text reads 'When someone orders 2 minutes before close' but was posted with the caption: "Just a joke I promise."

The video divided opinion with the spoof clip backfiring slightly, as one said: "I thought this is what you do normally."

A second said: "That's what it looks like anyways no matter the time of order let's be honest."

It angered some people, as one said: "Two minutes before closing, so you’re still open, do your job. How would you like someone handling your food like that?"

Another added: "If you don’t love what you do then please do something else, you’re just creating negativity for other people otherwise."

But many defended the video, saying: "People who don't get this obviously have never worked in fast food..."

Another argued: "Eh I'll still eat it with no complaints."
