Designer Kim Jones has been announced as GQ International Menswear Designer Of The Year at the Australian award ceremony in Sydney.
As the style director of Louis Vuitton's men's ready-to-wear division, British Jones can claim quite the CV having worked with a host of high profile fashion brands, including Dunhill, Louis Vuitton, Mulberry, Alexander McQueen, Hugo Boss, Iceberg, Topman, Uniqlo and Umbro.
Put simply – this award winner is at the forefront of the ascension of modern menswear. Five years since his move to the acclaimed French maison, Louis Vuitton Men’s Creative Director, Kim Jones, continues to set sartorial agendas with fresh seasonal aesthetics inspired by personal travels to some of the more remote regions of the world.
Jones’ following is built on his reworking and unique take on luxury; of being unafraid to dip into his own love of ‘streetwear’ and to acknowledge the need of functionality as well as form. It’s why he’s accrued so many firm fans – David Beckham, Kanye West, Zayn Mailk and our fine selves, among them.
Accepting his award, Jones said:
"It's a real privilege to be here. I don't really do speeches - but I love Sydney, I love Australia. Thank you."
Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has been announced as GQ Man Of The Year at the Australian award ceremony in Sydney.
Proud Aussie, talented surfer, doting dad, charitable, grounded, funny, successful. The guy is Thor, for Norse's sake. He's as good as faultless; hence the inability to pen sentences even a little objective. Still, we can but try.
His colleagues also find it hard to say a bad word about him. In the forthcoming December issues of GQ Australia Tom Hiddleston says of Hemsworth:
"One morning on the set of Thor: Ragnarok, I watch Chris zero in on an important scene between Thor and Loki with razor-sharp focus and commitment. The scene required a lot of nuance, but he wanted to shoot it quickly, because he had to be off-set by lunchtime in order to make it to father-daughter day at school in the afternoon. That's a Man Of The Year if ever I saw one."
This year Hemsworth picks up the coveted Man Of the Year award in association with Chivas, a prize that demonstrates just how much influence he has on both young and older Australians. Through his acting, his charities, his damn Instagram account, this home-grown success story is not only deserving of the accolade but humble beyond repute in the acceptance of it.
