A committee has been created by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowements (HR&CE) department, which sought petitions from ‘persons having interest’ in the Chidambaram Nataraja temple’s management.
The committee claims that 19,405 petitions were received, out of which 14,098 petitions mentioned irregularities in temple management and mentioned some complaints too.
This comes after the dikshitars (a community of brahmins who serve as the hereditary trustees of the Nataraja temple in Chidambaram) shunned HR&CE authorities from investigating the temple records for two days. The dikshitars have been given a 15-day period to respond to the complaints and irregularities.
