The Johnston Canyon hike is accessible year-round, making it a popular destination for both summer hikers and winter adventurers. The trail follows a series of catwalks along the canyon which lead to two main waterfalls, the Lower Falls and Upper Falls. The falls are incredible in summer, but I would argue they are even more captivating during winter when the falls freeze into breathtaking ice formations!
Johnston Canyon is an easy - moderate hike making it accessible for many visitors to the National Park. It is also a popular photography spot and in a great area for wildlife viewing!

✈️ Travel Tips:
Johnston Canyon is approximately 30 minutes outside the town of Banff. If you are visiting in summer, the Roam public transport is your best option to visit this location! In winter this service is not available so options to visit include driving your own vehicle or joining a guided tour. Make sure you plan early as the parking lots do fill quickly!
