Lyrics by Jennifer Jill Schwirzer

Jennifer posted the words to this song on Facebook, and I knew immediately I wanted to compose a tune for it. When I asked her if that was all right, she replied "Both Alison (her daughter) and I have put tunes to this one. So it's already being fought over. But if you want to add to the fricasse . . ."
So, this is my entry!
It's a tearing of the heart
From the chest, and then apart
Till the soul is left a' tattered
Falling faint, abused and battered
It's a knife into the gut
With a jagged kind of cut
It's the blood that spills like water
For the lover, son or daughter
This is how love works
And sometimes it hurts
It's a screaming in the wind
Searching for the one who sinned
Crying out "I can't forget you
"Reject you or regret you"
It's a promise fully kept
Though they broke it and you wept
It's the tears that seal the bargain
And the pleading in the garden
This is how love works
And sometimes it hurts
It's the only way to be
Jesus loving you through me
Through this hope I'm not ashamed of
And the pouring of His great love
There's no better way to cope
Than to hold on to this hope
And to see through heaven's eyes that
Which you haven't realized yet
This is how love works
And sometimes it hurts
