Demand for small 5-axis part machining grows as manufacturers continually seek new ways to consolidate operations and drive toward consolidation of processes. The Makino a51nx-5XU 5-axis horizontal machining center offers these capabilities in a single machine platform, and it has the rigidity, reliability and productivity needed for aerospace, medical and tooling components. The machine’s rotary axis consists of twin direct-drive motors for the B- and C-axis, which are housed and integrated within a single casting design for superior rigidity over standard 5th-axis retrofits.

Designed with a unique work pallet magazine (WPM), this machining center can store 22 different workpieces (58 optional) for automated load and unload. This video demonstrates the automatic work changer on the a51nx-5XU. In just 4 seconds, it transfers the readied workpiece from the WPM to the integral V-flange receiver of the machine’s C-axis.
