(6 May 1978) Soviet Premier Leonid Brezhnev and West German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt have ended a series of talks held during the past three days in Bonn. Although the talks failed to break the deadlock between the Soviet Union and West Germany over the issue of Berlin or failed to make any concrete progress on the question of disarmament, the two leaders did sign a twenty five year economic cooperation treaty. Under the treaty West German industry will assist in developing Russian resources, modernise factories and give technological aid.
