The Malagousia wine was once used by Hippocrates, the founder of modern medicine. His home island, Kos, has been famous for health and wine for more than three thousand years. This episode tells the story of this ancient variety’s comeback after relic wine hunters discovered it in northern Greece and then successfully replanted it. Today it is one of Greece’s most popular white wines. On the mysterious volcanic island of Nisyros, a rare new indigenous variety of red wine has just been discovered.
