It is an Italian song written by Luigi Tenco in 1965. He devoted the song to his mother who took care of him on her own. She would have wanted for him a solid and settled future and by choosing music, he was worried he had disappointed her.
English Translation:
(Verse 1)
"When I return home in the evening
I barely can even talk.
Please don't look at me with that tenderness
as if I were a disappointed child.
Yes, I know. This surely is not the life
that I dreamed one day the two of us would share
(refrain)
You'll see, you'll see,
You'll see that it will change
maybe it won't be tomorrow
but one day it will all change
You'll see, you'll see,
I am not finished yet
I can't tell you how or when
but one it will all change
(verse 2)
I'd rather see you crying,
accusing me of disappointing you
then seeing you always react so tenderly
and so accepting of what little I can give you
I despair when I think of you and me
who just can't give you any more.
(refrain)"
