“Obviously this is one of those press conferences that you never want to give in your community,” Smithee said. “I mean it's sort of a nightmare that you hope to live in reality, but unfortunately, we find ourselves in the circumstances where we have to live this today.”
Dozens of officers are working overnight to investigate the shooting, Smithee added.
At least four people were dead, including a suspect, and 15 people injured after the shooting Sunday, July 28, at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, with police still searching for a potential accomplice.
