Abstract:
National archives are often at the forefront in preserving the cultural heritage of the world, one nation at a time. However, not all archives are on equal footing. Archives' abilities to govern, preserve, and provide access to invaluable records is impacted by colonialism and post-colonialism, access to technology, and natural and man-made disasters. In this panel discussion, join researchers of the International Directory of National Archives (IDNA) as they share insights from their research of national archives around the world and the national treasures the archives govern, preserve, and share.
Biography: Alyse Dunavant-Jones
Alyse Dunavant-Jones earned her Master of Library and Information Science degree and Advanced Certificate in Strategic Management of Digital Assets and Services in May 2018 from the San José State University School of Information. Prior to graduating, Dunavant-Jones was a researcher for the International Directory of National Archives and a graduate research assistant for the InterPARES Trust project. Dunavant-Jones is a virtual world librarian and serves as the assistant director for the Community Virtual Library.
Biography: Traci Mitchell
Traci Mitchell resides in Los Angeles, CA, and received Bachelor’s degree in History from UCLA. Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Library and Information Science degree through San José State University School of Information's online program, with a focus on archival practices. Upon completion of her degree, she hopes to apply her skills in an academic or special library setting.
Biography: Angie Conrow
Angie Conrow earned her B.A. degree in Anthropology from the University of Montana. Her interest in genealogy and archival records inspired her to join the team of researchers for the International Directory of National Archives, in examining national archives around the globe. She is a graduate student at the San José State University School of Information.
Biography: Faezeh Jahan Shiri
Faezeh Jahan Shiri is a member of the International Directory of National Archives research team who is very passionate about saving world memories and preserving cultural heritage for future generations through providing universal access to worldwide national archives. She holds a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from the San José State University School of Information.
