In today's video, we are going to talk about the Cabin Rate of Climb and the Aircraft rate of climb of the Boeing 737.

The Boeing 737 has two Rate of climb indicators, one on the Primary Flight Display and one on the overhead panel.
These two vertical speed indicators should give you a completely different rate of climb indications.

The Overhead rate of climb is a lot shallower than the vertical speed indicator of the PFD.

This is so because the rate of climb displayed in the overhead shows you the climb rate inside the cabin, so, if your cabin is climbing at 400 feet per minute that means that as a passenger you will feel a climb at 400 feet per minute.

The Vertical Speed displayed in the PFD however shows you what is the rate of climb of the Aircraft.

If you are wondering why this is so the answer is because the Aircraft is pressurized.
It is important to monitor the cabin rate on the overhead because it tells you if the cabin pressurization system is working.

If you experience a rapid depressurization during the cruise you will see that the PFD Vertical speed will remain 0 however the Cabin Vertical speed will raise significantly.
