Tens of thousands of residents have fled their homes as flames churn through foothill towns near Santa Barbara in southern California. This huge wildfire in southern California is the fifth largest in the state history. The wind-fanned blaze has already destroyed more than 750 buildings. Fires in the region broke out when little rainfall combines with strong winds. Hardly any measurable rain has fallen in the region over the last six months. People have been advised to stay indoors to avoid smoke and ash inhalation. Fires are not typical in California at this time of year but are expected to last into January. Report by Sarah Duffy.
