European Solidarity Corps (ESC) project in the Centrum Nauki Experyment w Gdyni (Science Centre Experyment in Gdynia) @centrumnaukiexperyment, Poland.
Experyment Science Center is a modern, interactive science center. A passionate team of teachers and scientists offers interesting programs and exhibitions for everyone. The Center's goal is to make learning enjoyable and accessible to everyone, regardless of age. One of the biggest attractions of the Experiment is the exhibition where guests can learn first-hand about various fields of science. The Center also organizes lectures, various educational workshops, and scientific shows, not only on site, but also in the Tricity area. The Center's team is made up of people from a variety of backgrounds, which contributes to creating a diverse and enjoyable environment where everyone can contribute to the team.
ESC volunteers work mainly in the events department. In this department, they prepare and implement many different events that the center organizes every year (such as Scientists' Night, Science com, Open'er Festival and many others). Volunteers' duties include creating and conducting various workshops for children and adults. Additionally, they participate in and organize science shows, write science news on our social media, and participate in and support lecture series organized by the center.
The activity take place in Gdynia (250 000 inhabitants), which together with Gdansk and Sopot builds agglomeration called Tricity (750 000). Gdynia is a young city with modernistic architecture, built in the early XX century. It attracts many tourists and inhabitants with beautiful beaches in the city center, music and film festivals and a couple of universities.
Gdynia ESC volunteers live in a few flats in different districts of the city and work in more than 10 different locations (libraries, NGOs, neighborhood centers etc). Together with their mentors (local volunteers) they create a large, international and lively community of around 35 young people.
Volunteering projects under the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) are volunteering opportunities that enable young Europeans to gain new skills, competences and experiences as well as personal, social, civic and professional development. The implementation of the projects responds to the needs of local communities, and at the same time increases the chances of volunteers on the labor market.
Volunteering projects are divided into:
- full-time individual volunteering, as part of the daily work of the host organization, in the country or abroad, from 2 weeks to 12 months;
- group volunteering carried out by groups of 5 to 40 volunteers, coming from at least two different countries, in the country or abroad, from 2 weeks to 2 months.
Program support for participants includes travel costs, pocket money, subsistence costs (accommodation and meals), language support, insurance and exceptional costs (e.g. visa costs).
Funded by the European Union.
