The Bongo family had been in power for 55 years. During that time, many in the oil-rich nation lived in poverty, as the elite plundered state revenues. One of the worst affected communities was pensioners, with many retirees struggling to survive. It's a story FRANCE 24's correspondents Catherine Norris Trent and Mayssa Awad have been investigating.
