On September 4th, 2006, 44 years old Steve Irwin went to work. He packed his truck with supplies and equipment and headed towards Bat Reef in Northeastern Australia, near Port Douglas. He was getting ready to film underwater scenes for a documentary called "Ocean's Deadliest" for the Discovery Channel. The documentary was directed by John Stanton. Before the filming, John had a bad feeling. He told his friends and the producer, asking to cancel the documentary, but they couldn't due to the money invested. John still felt uneasy but went to the reef with Steve Irwin and the cameraman, Justin Lyons.
On the morning of September 4th, they reached a small town near Port Douglas. Steve Irwin's research boat, The Croc One, took them to Bat Reef, located near the Great Barrier Reef on the Eastern Australian coast. The area was home to marine animals like turtles, dolphins, and whales. The crew aimed to film a shark for their episode, so they wore their diving gear and prepared to enter the water.
However, the sea was murkier than usual, making it difficult for Steve and Justin, the cameraman, to find a safe spot to search for a shark.
