【Pls look at the top comment first】Music is boundless for the world. This is a memorable band, led by a monumental musician from Brazil. Back to the glorious years of hard/melodic rock explosion, this album should never be forgotten. This song one of the most well-known singles from the band. Preciously, it was sung in Portuguese. For whoever hears hard/melodic rock in Portuguese for the first time, just have a try as classic sounds should be spread beyond languages.
The band is called Taffo, which is in the name of Brazilian rock musician Wander Taffo. Taffo band was a short-lived legend between 1990 to 1992, but the deep influence from the band on Brazilian rock music scene should never be forgotten as well as the influence from Wander Taffo, one of the top-class guitar virtuosos in Brazil.
The song is taken from the superb album of Taffo, entitled "Rosa Branca", which means "White Rose" in English. The year 1990 saw this album coming out, but it was not the beginning of Mr Taffo's music career. In the past few decades, his played with various bands whose career can be dated back to 1973. Since the early 1980s, he was active in many well-known Brazilian bands.
For people who are not Brazilians or Latinos, Brazilian rock musicians are not the familiar names, especially those who performed in Portuguese, but Wander Taffo was a real legend. I use "was" not "is", because Wander Taffo passed away for many years.
Taffo band was formed in 1990, featuring a four-piece line-up. Among the four members, there were two brothers, bassist & vocalist Andria Busic and drummer Ivan Busic, who played with Wander Taffo before and later formed Dr. Sin after Taffo band broke up. Though Taffo band didn't last long, this superb album "Rosa Branca" won big sussess to both the band and Wander Taffo.
Before Taffo band, Wander Taffo had already formed his own band, and released a self-titled album "Wander Taffo" in 1989, which featured three members, the Busic brothers and himself. It could be considered as the predecessor of his 1990 band. In 1990, Marcelo Souss joined Taffo band on keyboards, who later played in Dr. Sin as well in 1996.
"Rosa Branca" is an amazing release, combined hard rock and aor with hooks on each track. Most of the songs were sung by bassist Andria Busic. Wander Taffo himself was also an excellent singer and songwriter. In his 1989 St album, the first single "Pra Dizer Adeus" was sung by Wander Taffo and featured a video clip filmed in 1988. In "Rosa Brance", more aor elements were added into the creations, blessing for ears.
The fantastic guitar tapping is the biggest charm from this song "Mê Dê Sua Mão". From the intro and the interlude, the flowing tapping parts take us back to the nostalgic moments that lots of hard rock guitar legends used to play. Just remember that "Me Dê Sua Mão" means "Give Me Your Hand", a love theme with a bit of sexy and abstract connotation.
After a flaming hard rock intro, Taffo started their music journey in "Rosa Branca". "Olhos De Neon" is a brilliant aor gem, which sounds in vein of typical 1980s melodic rock taste, splendid guitar works with keys gleaming on. "Vento Sul" is a power ballad, impressive to me. The highlights from the song carry the magnificent vibe, hitting the heart deeply. Musically, their songs are not inferior to any English rock gems. "Intuição" is a short bass solo track with drums, displaying the high sillks from the Busic brothers. In the album, there includes one English song, the 8th hard rock gem "Sweet Love" with typical 1980s American taste of rocking tunes. In the album, there are several representative works, featuring their performances on the TV shows and the gigs. "Mê Dê Sua Mão" is the most important single for promotion.
In 1990, Wander Taffo was elected as the best guitarist in Brazil by Specialized critics. Both the epic St album (it received the Brazilian Music Award in the category "Male Pop Rock Revelation" in 1989) and this classic "Rosa Branca" made Wander Taffo establish the top-class position on Brazilian rock music scene. Besides, he was also a great CEO of EM&T.
In July 1997, Wander Taffo achieved his big dream to run the school EM&T (School of Music and Technology). The school is unprecedented in Latin America as his great contribution to music training and education. On 14th May, 2008, his sudden death at the age of 53 was a big loss, causing the reformed band Rádio Táxi to be interrupted, the band that he performed in the early to mid 1980s.
On youtube, there are lots of videos as the tributes to the respected guitar hero Wander Taffo. "Mê Dê Sua Mão" is always the unforgettable one in memory of his skilled playing in his living years. When the tapping and outro solo come into ears, the great tunes of "Mê Dê Sua Mão" will never fade away, which was written by all the four members of Taffo band and the twin sister of Wander Taffo, his musical partner Fatima Taffo.
