Update:
One mistake I think is that according to the WoWSim, you can equip both a Blacksmithing socket bonus AND a frag grenade launcher.
The other interesting thing is, swapping Engineering for the leatherworking +130 bonus attack power (and replacing the Engineering enchants with Enchanting enchants) yields an extra +25 to +35 DPS in the sim for Phase1 Hunters. This might not be a huge amount, but it definitely makes you think twice about Engineering as a profession. It is definitely not top tier when it comes to stat bonuses, as I originally thought.
Original Description:
In Wrath of the lich king, almost every profession provides either a unique stat benefit to your character, or some sort of a healing utility in the case of herbalism for instance.
Each profession gives you a type of usually gear enchant that is unique to that profession. There is a formula they used, and it is generally 80 attack power and 47 spell power. For instance leatherworkers can enchant 130 attack power onto their bracers, which is exactly 80 attack power better than the enchant from actual Enchanting. Most of the Enchanting enchants are available to everyone, meaning the Enchanter can enchant anyone's gear in a trade window, but the unique profession bonuses we are going to talk about today only you can enchant on yourself, and you need to have a certain skill level of that profession to remain active.
