The 2022 Ford Transit Connect's maneuverability and versatility make it a great city van, but its unrefined nature and unremarkable engines leave a lot to be desired. However, for the various tradespeople who will find it most useful, those demerits should be easier to stomach. Available as a hollowed out cargo van or one that'll hold up to seven passengers, the Transit Connect can be configured for a multitude of jobs. There's also a choice of short or long wheelbases and a rear liftgate or symmetrical rear doors. Ford even offers popular features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as driver assists such as adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring. As long as highway slogs are limited, and regularly driven roads aren't too rough, the 2022 Transit Connect is easy to get around in, and its go kart like handling is endearing.




2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris Passenger Van


Mercedes Benz has enjoyed a reputation for producing high quality, dependable passenger haulers, and the Metris is one of them. The smallest van on offer by Merc boasts class leading towing capability and loads of cargo space for that family camping trip you keep bringing up at the dinner table, or for the commercial shuttle between the airport and hotel. Beyond functionality, the Metris offers a capable engine and comfortable interior. Shoppers will find many things to appreciate about the German cart, but it isn't all sunshine and roses for the Metris. It trails behind rivals with subpar fuel economy and it carries a much heavier price tag, too. Are there enough pros for the Metris to confidently compete against the Ford Transit Connect Passenger Wagon? Perhaps, but they may well be hidden behind the paywall of options.






2022 Ram ProMaster City Wagon


The Ram ProMaster City Wagon is the smallest van offered by the company and it needs to pack a lot into its minor league sized frame. It manages to include the bare minimum in many aspects but does exceedingly well at being a frugal fuel sipper. Not only does it save you money on gas, but it also keeps a couple of thousand dollars in your pocket compared to competition like the Ford Transit Connect and the Mercedes Benz Metris. It does well for its asking price, even if it's a little bare-bones in terms of convenience and tech. The wagon offers an admirable amount of space, but its pragmatic nature results in a functional, yet vapid experience that's further emphasized by its lackluster 2.4-liter engine, providing just enough power to get the job done, but nothing more. 2021 Ford Transit Crew Van


The Ford Transit has led the work-van segment for quite some time now, despite stiff competition from the Ram ProMaster Cargo Van and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van. Along with several updates in 2020, the Transit also saw the addition of a new trim aimed at more niche buyers the Transit Crew Van. Seating five as standard, the Crew Van is designed to haul larger work teams while still supplying enough room for tools and equipment in the trunk. Like the Cargo Van, the Crew Van is available with three body lengths and roof heights, as well as two available engines. The standard V6 gas engine develops 275 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the twin turbocharged V6 develops 310 hp and 400 lb ft. With the Cargo Van on which it is based still leading the segment, we're excited to see how the Crew Van fares against the competition.








2022 GMC Savana Passenger


As a basic work tool, the 2022 GMC Savana gets the job done, but this no frills package doesn't offer the same modern amenities of its rivals. Instead, this simplistic, boxy van which is a clone of the Chevy Express—has one thing on its mind: productivity. Available as either a cargo or passenger van, the Savana can haul and tow with the best of them. Want a touchscreen infotainment system? Too bad. In dash navigation? Nope. Adaptive cruise control? Forget it. The Savana's been in production since before those features even existed. The Savana's charm lies in its simplicity, but the tradespeople who drive them might find rivals such as the Ford Transit, the Mercedes Benz Sprinter, and the Ram ProMaster more pleasant rigs to live with.
