We're discussing another film by the great Ingmar Bergman, and sadly, I don't think it's very good. 'The Passion of Anna' has marvellous cinematography, superb acting and some engrossing sub-plots about animal cruelty and the protagonist Andreas' affair, but the main plot-thread - the relationship between Andreas and Anna - fails to engage because of their passion-less dynamic, the frequent monologues and narration and the sheer amounts of exposition limiting how close we can get to the characters. Overall, it falls short of Bergman's outstanding previous film 'The Shame', which is one of my favourite movies.
