Today, I take apart 2 USB Power Strips to discover what Greebles await inside. However, in this episode, I will modify the USB Power Strip that has a broken power switch. I will remove the switch and bypass it so that the power strip will finally work. This will provide me the ability to power devices at my workbench, such as an Arduino Uno’s from a 120 VAC source (eg Wall outlet) without having to go searching for a 9V battery. Is all this overkill? Yes, and I loved every minute of it.

I will also Step up my game from my last project by learning how to add an Arduino Uno so that I can Automate the LED’s and make them come to life in a Star Wars Display Panel.

On a side note: My soldering equipment is 15 years old, so I was excited to finally upgrade the Soldering Iron and add a ‘Helping Hands’ station. It really does make a difference.

NOTE: Since I removed the switch, I decided to not use the 120V outlets on the power strip. It’s not a safety issue, just a decision I made. As I really only want the power strip for the USB outlets. So I taped off the entire outside with electrical tape to cover the 120V outlet holes.
