Short, medium and long-term corruption trends for Turkmenistan and other Eastern European/Central Asian countries are presented in this video using scores published by Transparency International in their Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2023 report.
The video reviews Turkmenistan’s performance in addressing corruption in the periods 2012-2023, 2018-2023 and 2022-2023.
Turkmenistan’s CPI score recorded an overall moderate improvement in 2012-2023. After advancing in 2014-2016, the country’s CPI score gradually fell back in 2016-2023.
The rate of change in the country’s CPI score was below the rate of change in average Eastern European/Central Asian CPI scores in 2012-2023, 2018-2023 and 2022-2023 while it exceeded the rate of change in average global CPI scores in 2012-2023 but the reverse result arose in 2018-2023 and 2022-2003.
Turkmenistan’s CPI score was materially less than average Eastern European/Central Asian and global CPI scores continuously throughout 2012-2023; it was also the lowest among Eastern European/ Central Asian country CPI scores during the last seven years.
