This is my arrangement of Hitoshi Sakamoto's "Flood of Power," the first stage theme from Data East's Midnight Resistance for the Sega Genesis. I have arranged it for native playback on SNES hardware, and the audio was recorded directly from a launch-model SNES console.
Has anybody else noticed just how awesome the soundtracks tended to be in military action hero-themed games from the late 80s/early 90s? Contra, Bloody Wolf, Midnight Resistance, Twin Cobra, ESWAT - there were so many!
This has always been a favorite, though. The Genesis version of the song that this is based on isn't the original version, but as anyone that played the original arcade game can tell you - the Genesis soundtrack is an amazing upgrade.
I think that using a massive wall of brass sound with heavy vibrato was a good fit for this track, and I really liked how the square waves I used for the harmonies helped to balance out the brashness of the trumpets.
Man, Data East sure knew how to put together a soundtrack!
Hope you all like the arrangement!
