You don't need to have seen this movie to appreciate this MASTERFUL character introduction. (That said, you can find RRR on Netflix!) This is an epic lesson in SHOW DON'T TELL. From the first few seconds of seeing this Indian British soldier, we get a powerful impression of personality, ideologies, life goals, and position within the story. This 10 minute sequence gives us a challenge for a VILLAIN, an arc for him to show off his best qualities, in a way that's so unbalanced in its odds and stakes that we cannot look away. By the end, he is left with a conflict (failing to achieve his promotion) that expands his character even further. Even though the scene is clearly over the top, it gives us a simple step-by-step lesson in suspension of disbelief. We don't need a name, we don't need dialogue -- we're all set with this character's story with this epic battle we see here.
