UPDATE... I ended up wiring the gauges back lights to be on in run and start. With the windows being tinted it is to dark in the cab to see the gauges, even in bright sun light. I hook the two white lighting wire to one of the red with black stripe wires.
Tips on how I how I installed NVU - New Vintage USA gauges in my OBS truck. How I wired them to factory instrument panel harness and mounted the gauge cluster. What the gauges look like installed. Watch for the wiring chart for 1990-1994 OBS dash's, double check it to make sure it works for your application. I think the 88 89 dashes have a little different wiring schematic, but it might get you started.
With the factory 85 mph speedo and 5000 rpm tac it's time to upgrade. I picked NVU gauges over other gauges because. I like the elegant but simple appearance, reuse of the factory shift indicator on the NVU gauge panel and that gauges are not branded. So they look like something GM would have used. Also I think the prices fair and they have them in stock. NVU gauges might be a little harder to install, but worth it to me.
