On February 22, Google announced Gemma, a family of lightweight, open models with best-in-class performance. Gemma is developed by Google DeepMind and built from the same research and technology used to create the Gemini models. Google has also made significant progress in making these models responsible and safe for use. The Gemma models are available for download, use, modification and distribution with a few restrictions, and represent a big step forward in the area of open models. Gemma is currently available for download and use through HuggingFace, Kaggle and Google's own Vertex AI Model Garden.
