Dear all,
Asian pear sweet soup is a very popular dessert soup in Asia, especially during the dry season or autumn for the early onset of dry cough, or general dryness such as dry throat. So, even if you don’t have a cough, you can just cook it as a nourishing dessert, especially during drier weather/season. This dessert is not overly sweet (depending on how much rock sugar/honey you put in!), and it is dairy and gluten-free.
There are many different recipes, I chose the simplest one as all you need is an Asian pear, rock sugar or honey. It is safe for children as it is just food! For more flavour and more nourishing effect, red dates and goji berries are added in the video. Yet, they are optional. Other recipes out there may include herbs that are either hard to find good quality herbs or some herbs may not be the safest for children. So, I settled with this simple recipe!
I also teach you two methods (double boiling and standard cooking) in the video. In fact, there is a third method I mentioned. If you don’t have a double boiler at home, you can also just steam the whole pear by preparing the pear the same for the double boiling method. Check out the video to learn more.
Please note this recipe is not for all types of cough. If there are copious phlegm, this may not work. Also, it is mainly for ‘heaty cough’. Not for the ‘cold’ type of cough as pear is cooling. It may aggravate the cough if the cough is a ‘cold’ type of cough. I will share some simple tips on how to differentiate different types of cough in the video.
