Juvenile peregrine falcons spend a lot of time in the air learning new skills and playing “talon tag”. This is good practice for learning the skills needed for doing aerial food transfers and eventually catching prey in mid-air. In each of these video clips you can see two of the three siblings. There are two females and one male. If you look closely, you’ll notice the male (smaller than the females) is in every video clip. The two females seemed to like interacting with him the most, and I noticed many times that the male was the instigator. This video footage is 4x slow motion. In real time the action happened incredibly fast. These three put on the best air show, and it was absolutely amazing!
Male Peregrines are often referred to as the “tiercel” (meaning a third), because they tend to be 1/3 smaller than females. #falcon #peregrinefalcon
