Cambodia has long been one of the poorest countries in the world but is now experiencing record economic growth. The Kingdom, ravaged by civil war for nearly 30 years, appears to be moving on: authorities have opened the door to economic opportunities for foreign investment, with a specific focus on Chinese capital. Infrastructure projects are multiplying and Phnom Phenh, the busting capital city, is becoming a new hub for business in Southeast Asia. This unprecedented economic success, however, comes at the expense of the Cambodian people, as FRANCE 24’s team on the ground reports.
