Hello my loves! Today we chat about the ugly side of the dance world- the side that pushes a specific body aesthetic. We have all been conditioned to believe dancers need to be incredibly skinny, long-legged with perfect feet, without curves, etc... The list truly goes on and on. Recently a lot of professional dancers, including my friend Kathryn Morgan, have come out with their traumatic stories regarding body image and the torment they endured while training. You don't have to be a professional ballerina to have gone through something similar- sadly, all dancers are vulnerable to comments, criticism, judgment, and a skewed perception on themselves, primarily their physical appearance. I knew I wanted to speak on this topic because it is so important to understand that your mental and physical wellbeing take precedence over everything. Dance will always be there for you when you're ready to return. Please enjoy this episode of Dancers' Corner- a dance advice series from me (Miss Auti... hehe).
