Brockport, N.Y. (WHAM) — A high school senior helped save the life of a 67-year-old man who crashed his car in Brockport after suffering a medical emergency over the weekend.
Leigha Walker of Holley High School was working at the Subway on Brockport Spencerport Road Sunday morning when a car crashed into a pole outside the shop.
"I was opening on Sunday, getting all the bread ready. A couple of minutes before 10, I put the last tray in, closed the door and a blue pickup truck crashed outside," Walker recalled.
The Brockport Fire District says the driver was barely breathing at the scene.
Walker and three others from the store wasted no time.
"The gentleman was hunched over. It appeared he was blocking his airway," said Walker. "We broke into his truck with a rod from the back and got the door open. My co-worker, Lo, grabbed him out of the truck basically by herself. I got his head down on a moving blanket since it was on the concrete."
The 18-year-old began performing chest compressions on the man. Soon after, emergency personnel arrived at the scene and deployed an AED.
