The Liturgy:
Opening Anthem
The Child in Each of Us arr. Marilynn Ham
Call to Worship
We meet in different buildings in different towns,
We speak different languages and sing different hymns.
We wear different clothing and have different gifts and talents.
Yet, as we gather together for worship, we become one body, one family in Christ.
We join together on a musical journey,
a musical journey to unite with God.
We join together with God, as the Kingdom of God comes, and as God’s will is done.
Let us join together in musical worship with God this day.
Hymn
We Sing to You, O God!
Anthem
O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus arr. Joel Raney
Anthem – Piano and Organ Duet -- John L. Churchwell and The Rev. Brett Johnson
LOBE DEN HERREN arr. Stan and James Pethel
Prayer
God of our daily lives, we pray for the people of this world,
working and without work,
homeless or well-housed,
fulfilled or frustrated,
confused and cluttered with material goods, or scraping by,
lonely or living in community,
finding their own space and respecting the space of others.
We pray for each other, that though once we were strangers, we are now friends and family. AMEN.
Anthem
I Am a Poor Wayfarin’ Stranger arr. Joel Raney
Scripture John 14:18-31
“I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. In a little while, the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me, and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.” ...
The Word of God for the People of God.
Thanks be to God.
Anthem
Jesus Loves Me arr. Joel Raney
Liturgy
Jesus said, “Come unto me all you who are weary and I will give you rest.”
We long for our souls to rest in the peace which Christ gives.
Jesus also said, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me.”
As we come to worship, let us cast our burdens on God and find that God bears our burdens and lightens our load.
Anthem
It is Well With My Soul arr. Nathan P. DiGesare
Anthem
A Spanish Rhapsody on All Creatures of Our God and King arr. Joel Raney
Closing Liturgy
It is by our love that we are known to be followers of Christ.
It is by trusting that we become fully human.
It is by changing that we hope to grow.
What we were when we came here, we will not be when we leave, for we have worshipped together. Let us therefore show our love to God by singing together!
Closing Hymn
LASST UNS ERFREUEN – When Words Alone Cannot Express
Closing Prayer
Here in this sanctuary,
we remember, O God, your gift of life to each of us, and we seek to carry it to the streets.
Wherever there is death and violence, wherever there is grief and loss,
here in this sanctuary,
we remember, O God, your invitation to belong and find shelter, and we seek to carry it to the streets.
Wherever there is loneliness and rejection, wherever there is homelessness and people are displaced,
here in this sanctuary,
we remember, O God, your reign of justice and righteousness, and we seek to carry it to the streets.
Wherever there is lawlessness or tyranny, wherever there is corruption and oppression,
here in this sanctuary,
we remember, O God, your sacrifice of love and mercy, and we seek to carry it to the streets.
Wherever there is hatred and evil, wherever there is hopelessness, regret, and guilt,
here in this sanctuary, where we remember all that you have done for us, O God, we remember also your call to live what we sing and pray.
And so we commit ourselves again to carry our worship from the sanctuary to the streets.
AMEN!!
